Guild Wars 2 reveal expected this week

GAMESCOM’09: NCsoft to unveil MMO sequel during Cologne trade event

NCsoft is expected to reveal major details for the highly anticipated Guild Wars 2 at this year’s Gamescom.

The official website and Twitter feed for the sequel to one of the publisher’s biggest hits are now active, while the developer has teased that the first glimpse of the game “is almost here”.

ArenaNet boss Mike O’Brien said: “I want to thank all our fans for their patience as we developed the game to the point where we can start talking about it publically. I know you’ve all been anxiously awaiting this moment.

“You’ll soon understand how ambitious we’ve been and what we’ve accomplished during these past two years of development. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but from here on out we’ll be able to provide you with more regular updates. Stay tuned for an exciting week ahead.”

Kotaku reports that when arranging press appointments for Gamescom, NCsoft said it had a major announcement lined up for the trade show.

I'll believe it when I see it. I mean, this is more confirmation of anything than we've seen up to this point. I'm not calling vaporware, but "details" could be anything.

Lets hope for the best though. Unconfirmed maybe but as above have said its the best we have gotten in a very long time.

And when it does come out next thing we will be hearing from Vaporware people is how horrible the game will be because of x,y,z, and so on -_-

I won't get my hopes up for anything. I'll believe it when they come out with it. Until then, its going to be a long wait as far as I'm concerned

I think that "PRESS RELEASE": in the title is misleading.

This is NOT a NCSoft or ArenaNet press release.

It's just that that source is reiterating the same we have already been told by Mike, but suddenly 'NCsoft is expected to reveal major details for the highly anticipated Guild Wars 2 at this year’s Gamescom'. If they got some inside information, I could understand them claiming this, but otherwise, they know as much as we do.

It would be okay if it wasnt for the huge PRESS RELEASE! in the title that makes it look like Anet/NCsoft have just announced something important for GW2. Especially now that people are on the edge waiting for the slightest sign of GW2 info.

What we can get from this thread is that there's some independent verification of what's going on at Cologne. It's good to see other people reporting on this as well, not just Mike dropping hints. If he's talking to more and more media about it, that shows they're actually doing something they want more people to see. Hopefully that means something more substantial than just a few more details about the game, i.e. screenshots, video, beta info.
